You asked for three quotes for your new hotel website: €1,500, €6,000 and €18,000. Same request, prices that seem to come from three different planets. Who's right?
The truth is that "a website" can mean very different things. In this article we look at how much a three-star hotel website costs, what drives the price difference and how to compare quotes intelligently.
Price ranges (indicative)
Here are the ranges most commonly found in the European market for an independent hotel. They're rough guides, not price lists.
| Type of website | Indicative range | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| DIY template or site builder | €0–1,500 + subscription | Very small properties, minimal budget |
| Template customised by a professional | €2,000–5,000 | Small hotels with standard needs |
| Custom hotel website, multilingual, basic SEO | €5,000–12,000 | Most independent three-star hotels |
| Complete project with branding, photos, content, advanced SEO | €12,000–25,000+ | Hotels repositioning themselves |
Careful: the upfront cost isn't everything. Annual costs matter too.
Annual costs to factor in
- hosting and domain: from a few tens to a few hundred euros a year;
- maintenance and updates (security, plugins, backups): often a monthly or annual fee;
- booking engine: fee or percentage of bookings, usually separate from the website;
- content and SEO: if you want the website to grow on Google, it needs ongoing work;
- licences (themes, plugins, fonts, tools).
A cheap website that needs a technician every time you want to change an offer can cost more over time than a well-built one.
What drives the price
- Languages: every extra language means proper translations and, ideally, SEO for that market. See multilingual hotel websites: which languages to choose.
- Number of pages: rooms, services, offers, local area, events, FAQs.
- Custom design or template: custom costs more but fits your hotel better.
- Content: copy by a copywriter, professional photos and video can be worth as much as the website itself.
- SEO and GEO: technical structure, structured data, content designed for Google and AI assistants.
- Integrations: booking engine, Google Analytics, newsletter, CRM, chat.
- Speed and accessibility: a lightweight, accessible website requires more technical care.
What it must always include
Whatever the budget, a three-star hotel website can't do without:
- a flawless, fast mobile version;
- an always-visible booking button and integrated booking engine;
- at least your local language and English, both well written;
- room pages with real photos, sizes, amenities and indicative prices;
- practical information: parking, breakfast, times, directions;
- legal details, privacy, cookies and any required registration codes;
- Google Analytics 4 and Search Console set up;
- admin access in your name (domain included!).
How to compare quotes
Ask each supplier to answer these questions in writing:
- Which pages and how many languages are included?
- Do you write the copy or do I have to provide it?
- Are photos included?
- What does SEO include? Do you handle redirects from the old site?
- Are the domain and logins registered to the hotel?
- What do maintenance and changes cost after delivery?
- Is the site connected to Google Analytics with booking tracking?
- Have you built hotel websites before? Can I see them and talk to a client?
The last point matters a lot: a hotel website has to sell rooms, not just look nice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I build the website myself with a site builder?
Yes, it's possible for very small properties. The risk is ending up with a slow site, poorly optimised for Google and hard to connect to the booking engine. Consider the time you'll need to spend on it.
How often should a hotel website be rebuilt?
On average every 4–6 years, but there's no fixed rule. If the site is fast, converts well and is easy to update, you can improve it rather than rebuild it. See redo your hotel website or improve the one you have: how to decide.
Will a new website increase bookings straight away?
If the problem was conversion, often yes. But a new website doesn't automatically bring more visits: that takes SEO, your Google profile and promotion.
