A guest calls: "Google said your website was €95, but when I clicked it was €118." Or your hotel shows as "unavailable" on Google for dates when you have free rooms. Meanwhile the OTAs appear with their prices, and the guest books there.

Wrong prices or availability on Google aren't just annoying: they cost bookings and can reduce your link's visibility, because Google rewards price accuracy. Let's look at the most common causes and what to check.

Why accuracy matters so much

Google wants the price shown in results to match what the user finds when they click. Its booking link guidelines list price accuracy as one of the ranking factors. If discrepancies are frequent, your link can drop or be suspended until fixed.

The most common causes of wrong prices

1. Inconsistent taxes and fees

The most frequent case. Google shows a price that includes (or excludes) taxes and fees depending on the user's country. If your booking engine sends prices without VAT, or without a mandatory fee it adds at checkout, the final price won't match.

Check with your provider how VAT, city tax and mandatory fees are handled in the data sent to Google.

2. The wrong rate is sent

The booking engine might send the non-refundable rate, a member rate or a package, while the guest lands on a pricier standard rate. Check which rate is used for Google.

3. Different occupancy

Google often searches for 2 adults. If the price sent is for 1 person, or the smallest room isn't available for 2, the numbers don't add up.

4. Update delays

If you change prices often and syncing with Google isn't fast, there may be moments when Google shows the old price.

5. Wrong landing page

The link goes to the booking engine homepage instead of the searched room and dates: the guest sees different prices or has to search again.

The most common causes of wrong availability

  • Restrictions: minimum stay, closed to arrival, minimum advance booking. If someone searches one night and you have a three-night minimum, you show as "unavailable".
  • Allotments not sent: some rooms are assigned only to OTAs, not to the booking engine.
  • Calendar open only a few months ahead: if the booking engine only opens short-term availability, Google has no rates for future dates.
  • Mapping errors between channel manager and booking engine.

The checks to make

  1. Search Google for different dates, lengths of stay and guest numbers, on mobile and desktop.
  2. Click your link and compare the final price with the one shown.
  3. Note discrepancies with date, room and rate.
  4. Send them to your booking engine provider, asking them to check the data sent to Google.
  5. Check restrictions in the channel manager and booking engine.
  6. Repeat after making changes.

And OTA prices?

If Google shows OTAs at a lower price than yours, it's not a Google error: it's a real disparity, often caused by discounts switched on at the OTAs or resold rates. See why your hotel is sold online for less than on your official website.

Frequently asked questions

Can Google suspend my prices?

Yes: with repeated discrepancies, your hotel's prices can be temporarily excluded until corrected. That's why regular checks pay off.

Should I show prices with or without taxes?

It depends on the user's country and Google's rules. What matters is that your provider sends consistent data, so the price shown matches the final one.

Who should fix the problem: me or my provider?

Usually your booking engine provider manages the technical connection; you need to supply correct rates, restrictions and rules and report discrepancies.
